InsForge — Claude Code MCP server: backend from your agent
An MCP server that lets your coding agent add a database, file storage, edge functions and deployments to an app. Handy when the backend is part of the coding session.
claude mcp add --transport http insforge-mcp https://mcp.insforge.dev/mcpWhat InsForge does
InsForge is a BaaS, and this repo is its MCP server. Once connected, your agent can reach the database, file storage, serverless functions and deployment tools, so it can build backend pieces without leaving the editor.
Setup comes in two flavours. The installer npx @insforge/install takes a --client flag for your editor and writes the config for you. Or add the server by hand: an HTTP transport pointing at https://mcp.insforge.dev/mcp, or stdio running npx -y @insforge/mcp. The stdio route expects API_KEY and API_BASE_URL in the environment, and without a key the server cannot reach your instance.
The instance URL defaults to http://localhost:7130, so a local InsForge has to be running first. Licensed under Apache-2.0.
What it helps with
- wire a database into an app without hand-rolling an ORM layer
- store and serve user uploads through file storage
- move logic into serverless functions
- ship a backend straight from the agent
- add LLM features to an app
Example prompts for the agent
- Set up InsForge and create a users table with email and created_at columns
- Upload this file to InsForge storage and give me the URL
- Deploy an edge function that handles the webhook

Questions about InsForge
How do I install the InsForge MCP server in Claude Code?
Run the installer: npx @insforge/install --client claude-code --env API_KEY=your_api_key --env API_BASE_URL=http://localhost:7130. You can also add it manually with claude mcp add --transport http insforge-mcp https://mcp.insforge.dev/mcp.
What does the InsForge MCP server do?
It exposes InsForge tools to your agent: database access, file storage, edge functions and deployment. That lets the agent add backend features while you code.
What does the server need to run?
An InsForge API key and the instance URL. The default URL is http://localhost:7130, so a local InsForge instance must be up.
