eCFR — Claude Code MCP server: federal regulations at hand
An MCP server with 13 tools for the electronic Code of Federal Regulations, covering FAR, DFARS and agency supplements.
claude mcp add --transport http ecfr-mcp https://ecfr.1102tools.com/mcpWhat eCFR does
This server hands your agent the text of the US electronic Code of Federal Regulations. Thirteen tools sit behind it, spanning FAR, DFARS and the supplements individual agencies publish. Useful when a rule lookup or a wording check has to happen mid-task.
Two ways to connect: a remote HTTP endpoint at https://ecfr.1102tools.com/mcp, or a local run through uvx ecfr-mcp. The local route needs uvx present — without it the command fails. Claude, Codex and Gemini CLI get ready-made add commands; Cursor and GitHub Copilot take a JSON config block.
MIT licensed, repo at 1102tools-dev/federal-contracting-mcps. Supported clients: Claude, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf (Devin Desktop), Cline, Zed and Gemini CLI.
What it helps with
- pull up a FAR section by number
- check DFARS wording before submitting a claim
- verify a requirement from an agency supplement
- quote a regulation inside a code comment
- look up a defined term in the regulation text
Example prompts for the agent
- Find the FAR section on protest procedures in eCFR
- Show me the DFARS text for this clause
- Which reporting requirement does the agency supplement set?
