docs2mcp — MCP server for Claude Code: query your own PDFs
Connects your PDFs and documents to an AI client. Answers come back with a citation and a link to the exact page and region they came from.
claude mcp add --transport http docs2mcp https://mcp.docs2mcp.com/mcpWhat docs2mcp does
docs2mcp is a hosted MCP server, not something you run locally. The repository holds connection instructions only — no server code. The endpoint is https://mcp.docs2mcp.com/mcp, transport is Streamable HTTP, and authentication runs on OAuth 2.1 with dynamic client registration, so no client id or secret is required.
Five tools sit behind it. search_documents does semantic search and returns cited passages with page numbers; list_documents and get_document cover the library and a single file; get_element returns an element with its surroundings, and a full table row when the element is a cell; list_collections lists your collections. Every hit carries a source_url that opens the document in a browser at the right page and region. That helps when you want to fill in a questionnaire from your own paperwork or diff two versions of a contract.
Documents are uploaded at https://app.docs2mcp.com, and you can start without an account. The anonymous session holding your files lives in the browser you uploaded from, so approve access in that same browser — approving elsewhere grants access to an empty library. Signing up later converts the same library in place, so nothing is lost.
What it helps with
- find the right passage in a pile of PDFs and verify where an answer came from
- fill in a questionnaire from your own documents
- compare two versions of a contract and see what changed
- check two revisions of a report or spec against each other
- pull a whole table row instead of a single cell
Example prompts for the agent
- Find the refund terms in my documents and show the page they came from
- Compare the two contracts in this collection and list the differences
- Fill in this questionnaire from my PDFs and cite the sources

How do I install docs2mcp in Claude Code?

No. The server supports dynamic client registration, so those fields stay empty in your client settings.
