Datalastic Vessel Tracking — Claude Code MCP server: what it does
Gives an AI client live ship positions, port records, maritime weather and reports on owners and inspections.
claude mcp add --transport http vessel-tracking https://mcp.datalastic.com/mcpWhat Datalastic Vessel Tracking & Maritime Intelligence does
The server lives at mcp.datalastic.com, so there is nothing to install locally. It ships 25 tools: live positions looked up by MMSI, IMO or name, a registry of 750,000+ vessels, a port directory with UN/LOCODEs, a radius search capped at 50 NM, marine and atmospheric weather with a 7-day forecast, and a Maritime Intelligence group covering ownership, inspections, casualties, dry-dock, engines and sale-and-purchase deals.
Two ways in. OAuth is the quick one: point your client at https://mcp.datalastic.com/mcp with no headers, and it opens a browser so you can sign in to your Datalastic account. Otherwise subscribe to a plan, take the API key from the email, and send it as the X-Api-Key header — Claude has a CLI command for this, other clients take it in their config file.
The Maritime Intelligence tools sit behind the Maritime Reports add-on. Call one without it and you get a message saying the add-on is required; intel_info reports your status and how to turn it on. Upgrades apply in the same session, no reconnect. AIS history goes back to 2021-08-10. sea_route returns a schematic route and distance for estimation and drawing, not for navigation.
What it helps with
- check where a ship is right now
- filter the registry by flag, type or tonnage
- pull wave and wind conditions at a port
- look up an owner or past detentions
- export a vessel or port list in one request
Example prompts for the agent
- Where is the vessel with IMO 1234567 and where is it headed?
- List every ship within 20 NM of Rotterdam
- What will the waves and wind look like at these coordinates this week?
