Copilot Money — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Exposes personal finance records from Copilot Money to AI assistants offline or via GraphQL. Useful for auditing expenses and tracking monthly budgets.
claude mcp add copilot-money-mcp -- npx -y copilot-money-mcpWhat Copilot Money does
This server reads directly from the local LevelDB database and Protocol Buffers created by the macOS app. In standard mode, all operations run completely offline without outbound web traffic. The basic configuration provides 14 read utilities covering account balances and spending history. Accounts linked through Plaid show up normally because the tool inspects local device data.
Running the binary with --live-reads swaps the setup to Copilot's GraphQL API, providing 25 read tools. Adding the --write flag activates 19 mutation actions to adjust categories, update tags, split receipts, and edit recurring bills. Live queries and mutations rely on an active browser login at app.copilot.money to reuse session tokens.
Without the macOS App Store edition of Copilot Money, local data files will be missing entirely. The runtime requires Node.js 18+. While this tool runs locally without custom telemetry, financial data retrieved during conversations is processed by whichever external AI provider powers your assistant.
What it helps with
- read personal finance records locally without outbound network requests
- update transaction categories and tags through GraphQL mutations
- inspect account balances including connections established via Plaid
- track recurring subscriptions and monthly budget limits in chat
Example prompts for the agent
- List my recent expenses under Groceries from the previous week
- Check all account balances and find upcoming recurring charges
- Assign the Travel tag to yesterday's airline purchase
