clickup — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Connects ClickUp workspaces to coding assistants for managing tasks, sprints, and time tracking. Keeps project management inside the terminal.
claude mcp add --env CLICKUP_MCP_LICENSE_KEY=<CLICKUP_MCP_LICENSE_KEY> --env CLICKUP_API_KEY=<CLICKUP_API_KEY> --env CLICKUP_TEAM_ID=<CLICKUP_TEAM_ID> --env DOCUMENT_SUPPORT=<DOCUMENT_SUPPORT> --transport stdio clickup -- npx -y @taazkareem/clickup-mcp-serverWhat clickup does
This MCP server links AI agents directly to ClickUp workspaces. It handles task operations, from setting up dependencies and nested subtasks to uploading attachments via local paths or base64. The server runs fuzzy matching across spaces, folders, and custom statuses. You can reference items by plain text names instead of hunting for raw IDs.
Time tracking tools are built in. An agent can start or stop timers, log hours manually, and pull historical records filtered by natural language dates.
A valid CLICKUP_MCP_LICENSE_KEY is required because this package uses a proprietary license. Running it also demands your CLICKUP_API_KEY and CLICKUP_TEAM_ID set in the environment.
What it helps with
- start or stop task timers and log work hours directly from chat
- create tasks with dependencies, checklists, and file attachments
- search folders, lists, and statuses without looking up numeric IDs
- review active sprints and update task progress
Example prompts for the agent
- Create a bug fix task in the current sprint and attach error.log
- Start the timer for my active task on backend refactoring
- Find all tasks in the Frontend list with status In Progress
