Cardog — Claude Code MCP server: VIN, listings, prices
Wires your coding agent into automotive data: VIN decoding, listings, market prices, recalls. An API key is required.
Open on GitHubWhat Cardog does
Cardog runs as a remote MCP server at https://mcp.cardog.io/sse. Once connected, the agent gets tools for vehicle data: searching inventory by make, model, year, price and mileage, pulling market analysis for a single VIN, charting price distribution and mileage-versus-price, comparing regional pricing, and reading time-series price trends. A second group covers research — model lineups for a manufacturer, trim levels and specs for a given model year, and safety recalls in the US and Canada. There are also EV charging and gas station lookups with fuel prices.
Authentication is mandatory. Grab a key at cardog.app/account/api and pass it one of three ways: the ?api_key=YOUR_KEY query parameter, an Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY header, or an x-api-key: YOUR_KEY header. The install snippets below bake the key straight into the URL, which is the least fiddly option — just remember it then sits in your config in plain text.
On Claude the whole setup is one line: claude mcp add --transport http cardog 'https://mcp.cardog.io/mcp?api_key={api_key}'. Cursor and GitHub Copilot take a JSON block, while Codex and Gemini CLI use their own add commands. The full API reference lives at docs.cardog.ai.
What it helps with
- decode a VIN and see what that car is worth
- find listings within a budget and mileage cap
- track how prices for a model moved over time
- check safety recalls for a model year
- compare what one model costs across regions
Example prompts for the agent
- What's the market like for 2022 Honda Civics?
- Check this VIN: 2T3P1RFV8NC123456
