Mochify — Claude Code MCP server: image and PDF compression
Gives your assistant a compression and conversion engine: AVIF, WebP, JXL, cropping, background removal, PDF handling.
claude mcp add --transport http mochify https://mcp.mochify.app/mcpWhat Mochify does
Mochify is a CLI and MCP server for mochify.app, an image compression and conversion service running a native C++ engine. You can hook it up to an assistant in two ways: locally with mochify serve over stdio, or through the hosted endpoint at https://mcp.mochify.app/mcp, which needs nothing installed.
The toolset covers conversion to jpg, png, webp, avif and jxl, resizing, cropping by saliency or by a rectangle you specify, rotation, background removal, hiding faces and regions, and PDF work. A --prompt mode takes plain-language instructions like “optimise for eBay” and works out the parameters itself. Quality is picked automatically unless you pass -q.
Without an account you get 3 images per batch, limited by IP; a free account raises that to 25 images a month. Signing in with mochify auth login opens a browser and stores credentials in ~/.config/mochify/credentials.toml, where both the CLI and the MCP server read them. On a headless machine, such as over SSH, use mochify auth login --no-browser and enter the printed code on another device.
What it helps with
- compress a folder of photos into AVIF in one go
- resize an image to a target width and switch it to WebP
- cut the background out of a product shot
- crop a picture to a specific rectangle
- shrink a PDF or an image for web delivery
Example prompts for the agent
- Convert every image in
./imagesto AVIF at 1200px wide and put them in./compressed - Remove the background from
product.jpgand convert it to WebP - Crop
photo.jpgto the region 0.2,0.1,0.6,0.8 and resize it to 800px
