Cactus — Claude Code MCP server: product help and release history
Wires your agent into Cactus knowledge: help pages, the product map, past customer conversations. Useful when answers should come from docs, not guesses.
claude mcp add --transport http cactus https://mcp.heycactus.ai/mcpWhat Cactus does
Cactus builds its picture of a product from the codebase, runs the public help site and tracks what shipped in each release. The MCP server exposes that material to your agent, which can search published pages, read the product map, pull up earlier support threads and answer a question with citations.
Cactus hosts the server itself; this repository only documents it. The endpoint is https://mcp.heycactus.ai/mcp over Streamable HTTP, and sign-in goes through OAuth 2.0 with your Cactus account (Google or GitHub). In Claude one command does it: claude mcp add --transport http cactus https://mcp.heycactus.ai/mcp. Cursor takes the URL in .cursor/mcp.json.
You need a Cactus team plus a product built from a GitHub repository — otherwise there is nothing for the server to read. Every tool is read-only; nothing gets edited or deleted. The two exceptions are ask and start_investigation, since each one produces a fresh answer or finding. Public help centers get their own servers without sign-in at https://mcp.heycactus.ai/p/<name>/mcp.
What it helps with
- find an answer on the published help pages without browsing them by hand
- pull up earlier customer conversations on a similar question
- see what changed between product releases
- get an answer that cites pages and the code map
- dig into a question across the product codebase and read the finding
Example prompts for the agent
- Search the Cactus help pages for webhook setup and link the page
- What did customers write about login failures? Check past conversations
- Ask Cactus why report export breaks and show the sources

It gives your agent access to product help pages, the code-derived product map, the release timeline and past customer conversations. The ask tool answers a question and points at its sources.
How is the public help-center server different from the main one?
The public one needs no sign-in and lives at https://mcp.heycactus.ai/p/<name>/mcp, answering the way the help center answers a visitor. The main server requires sign-in and adds the product map, releases and customer conversations.
