What Banxico (Banco de México) does

This server connects AI assistants to the Banco de México SIE economic database. It registers dedicated tools to fetch dollar-to-peso exchange rates, INPC inflation statistics, UDIS values, and central bank reserves. You can also query custom indicator series with consultar_serie_sie across specific date ranges using official series identifiers.

You have two setup paths. The remote hosted endpoint at https://banxico-mcp.duckdns.org/mcp needs zero configuration and no API key, though it throttles traffic per IP address. Running the tool locally via uvx mcp-banxico bypasses shared rate limits. Local execution demands Python 3.10 and a personal token in the BANXICO_TOKEN environment variable, without which SIE requests fail.

What it helps with

  • retrieve official USD/MXN exchange rates
  • inspect current Mexican inflation metrics and UDIS values
  • look up TIIE interbank interest benchmarks
  • extract historical time series from Banxico SIE by series code

Example prompts for the agent

  • Fetch the latest official USD/MXN exchange rate with tipo_cambio_usd
  • What is the current 28-day TIIE interest rate in Mexico?
  • Pull data for series SF43718 between September 1 and September 28
