AtlasFetch — Claude Code MCP server: installation
AtlasFetch gives AI assistants location lookups, South African address geocoding, street matching, and routes that can account for your own geographic zones.
claude mcp add atlasfetch -e ATLASFETCH_API_KEY=<ATLASFETCH_API_KEY> -- npx -y atlasfetch-mcpWhat AtlasFetch does
AtlasFetch exposes location tools through MCP. lookup_location maps coordinates to a country, region, municipality, and ISO codes; an optional street layer finds nearby streets worldwide. geocode_address turns one South African address into a point and reports whether the result reaches a house, corner, named site, street, or locality.
get_route handles 2 to 25 coordinates by car, bike, foot, or truck. Your boundary sets can shape the result: avoidSets keeps the route outside named zones, while exposureSets measures how much of the route crosses them. Other tools create boundary sets, add GeoJSON polygons, update them, and list their access details.
Address geocoding is limited to South Africa, while place-name search, traffic-aware ETAs, distance matrices, and map tiles are outside its scope. Route times use free-flow speeds, and each route consumes 10 lookups. Node 20 or newer is required for the server to start.
What it helps with
- map coordinates to administrative areas
- identify the nearest street for a point
- turn a South African address into coordinates
- route around delivery or service zones
- store and revise custom GeoJSON boundaries
Example prompts for the agent
- Tell me the country, region, municipality, and nearest street for
-33.9249, 18.4241. - Geocode
25 Adderley Street, Cape Townand explain the precision of the result. - Plan a car route through these coordinates while avoiding my
delivery-zonesboundary set.

Questions about AtlasFetch
How do I install AtlasFetch in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add atlasfetch -e ATLASFETCH_API_KEY=<ATLASFETCH_API_KEY> -- npx -y atlasfetch-mcp. The server reads the key from ATLASFETCH_API_KEY.
What does AtlasFetch do?
It gives an AI assistant tools for reverse geocoding, street lookup, South African address geocoding, routing, and checks against custom boundary sets.
What route limits should I know about?
Free plans allow 2 locations, while Pro supports up to 25; truck routing is Pro-only. Travel times use free-flow speeds and do not include live or historical traffic.
