api — MCP server for Claude Code: political SMS and MMS via API
An MCP server over the Political Comms REST API: reads organizations, projects, contacts, analytics and billing, and stages or schedules US SMS/MMS sends.
claude mcp add api -e POLITICAL_COMMS_API_KEY=<POLITICAL_COMMS_API_KEY> -- npx -y @political-comms/mcpWhat api does
The server speaks stdio and hands the agent a set of tools over the Political Comms REST API. Read tools cover organizations, the hierarchy tree with brands, projects and their configuration, delivery stats, a throughput estimate against carrier limits, contact lists with import progress and CSV output, aggregate message stats, billing usage, inbound conversations, and email domains, campaigns and templates.
Write tools create a draft project, send real test messages to numbers you name, commit a bulk send at a given date and time, unschedule it, pause a running or scheduled send, and copy a project into a new draft. Test sends, scheduling, conversation replies and email campaign scheduling all need confirm: true. Deleting anything is not among the tools, on purpose.
You need Node 20 or later and a pc_live_ API key that a person creates in the dashboard under Admin > API. That prefix is worth noticing: drafting is harmless, yet a test send or a schedule reaches real phones right away. Email write tools return 403 ENTITLEMENT_REQUIRED unless the organization carries the email entitlement, while email reads stay open. Requests are capped at 600 per minute per key, and a throttled call reports the wait from X-RateLimit-Reset.
What it helps with
- check which projects and brands the key can see
- estimate whether a send will pause at the T-Mobile daily cap
- pull a contact list down as CSV
- create a project draft and fire a test SMS
- commit a bulk send for a set date and time
Example prompts for the agent
- List conversations that have inbound messages and show the latest one
- Create a draft project for the campaign and send a test to my number
- Check project throughput and tell me if it hits the daily cap

Questions about api
How do I install api in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add api -e POLITICAL_COMMS_API_KEY=<POLITICAL_COMMS_API_KEY> -- npx -y @political-comms/mcp, replacing the value with your own pc_live_ key.
What does api do?
It exposes the Political Comms REST API as agent tools: read organizations, projects, contacts, stats and billing, draft projects, and schedule US SMS/MMS sends.
Which tools need confirmation?
Test sends, scheduling, conversation replies and email campaign scheduling require confirm: true, because they stage or dispatch actual messages.
