Aethelgard Ledger — Claude Code MCP server: how to install

Double-entry accounting engine for autonomous agents. It rejects unbalanced journal lines and secures records inside local SHA-256 chains.

What Aethelgard Ledger does

The engine runs locally and enforces core accounting constraints across 9 jurisdictions. Every posting requires matching debits and credits. When figures differ, the server turns down the entry with an explicit reason. Available tools cover account creation across standard categories like ASSET and LIABILITY, subsidiary assignments, and balance reporting.

Each journal links into a per-entity SHA-256 chain. Editing the ledger file outside the engine invalidates the integrity check called via verify_integrity. Records stay inside local operating system folders by default. You can change the directory using --vault <DIR> or launch disposable sessions with --ephemeral.

The database file is unencrypted on your disk. Group consolidation sums line values directly by account code without removing intercompany balances.

What it helps with

  • maintain double-entry books through an automated agent
  • reject transactions when debits and credits do not balance
  • generate combined trial balances across parent and subsidiary entities
  • verify ledger integrity against tampering using SHA-256 chains

Example prompts for the agent

  • Create PropCo Ltd with bank and rental income accounts in GBP
  • Record October rent for 1500 GBP and show the trial balance
  • Run verify_integrity and print the chain hash
