Currency Exchange — Claude Code MCP server: Norges Bank rates
Gives an AI assistant Norges Bank's daily rates for 38 currencies, amount conversion and World Bank buying-power multipliers.
claude mcp add --transport http currency https://currency.publifye.com/mcpWhat Currency Exchange does
The server speaks HTTPS and plugs into Claude, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, Cline, Zed and Gemini CLI. Seven tools sit behind it: five cover rates and conversion, two handle buying power. Each one only reads data, so repeating a call on the same day returns the same answer.
Rates come from Norges Bank publications, which land once per business day around 16:00 CET. Weekends and Norwegian holidays have no publication, and for such a date the server hands back the series as published instead of substituting a nearby value. Cross-rates such as USD→EUR are worked out through NOK, since that is the only pair the bank quotes.
The buying-power tools return two numbers. factor is the suggested multiplier: it stays at or below 1.0 and never drops under 0.35. raw_factor is the uncapped measurement and can sit above 1.0 — Norway measures about 1.10. Apply raw_factor to a Norwegian price and you charge roughly 10% over list. A Publifye account is required; sign-in happens through OAuth in the browser and there is no API key to create.
What it helps with
- look up a currency rate for a specific date
- convert an amount between two currencies
- pull a daily rate series for a chart
- reprice a USD list price for a local market
- tell a fresh buying-power figure from a stale one
Example prompts for the agent
- What was the USD to NOK rate on 15 March 2019?
- Convert 250 EUR to NOK using last Friday's rate
- Price 49 USD for Norway with get_buying_power
