3DAssets.dev — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Searches and downloads CC0-licensed GLB models and packs directly into coding agents. Useful for building 3D scenes in three.js or Godot.
claude mcp add --transport http catalogue https://3dassets.dev/mcpWhat 3DAssets.dev does
The server connects coding agents to the 3dassets.dev repository of web-optimised GLB assets. Everything in the catalog is CC0 1.0. Through tools like search_assets and get_pack, the assistant inspects tags, downloads models, and retrieves implementation demos.
Two connection methods are available. You can point your client directly to the hosted endpoint at https://3dassets.dev/mcp or run a local stdio bridge via 3dassets-mcp. No local files are retained.
Searching and downloading assets requires no credentials. If you plan to submit models through an agent, set the THREEDASSETS_API_KEY environment variable.
What it helps with
- search web-optimised GLB models by tag or category
- fetch CC0 asset packs for three.js or Godot
- inspect 3D model usage examples directly from chat
- upload new 3D assets to the catalog on your behalf
Example prompts for the agent
- Find a low-poly tree model in GLB format for my three.js scene
- Search 3dassets for sci-fi space station asset packs
- Get the download URL and code demo for the retro car asset
