Decline— what it means in affiliate marketing

A card payment refused by the issuing bank or the payment system.

Declines come in two flavours that matter: soft, where a retry can work, and hard, where it never will. A sudden rise in declines on a stable offer usually points at the processor or the card BIN mix, not at the traffic.

Risk payment A transaction with an elevated chance of being reversed — high-risk vertical, mismatched geo, a card and billing country that disagree.
BIN The first six to eight digits of a card number, identifying the issuing bank, country and card type.
Hold The waiting period between a conversion and the payout, while the advertiser checks the traffic.
Chargeback A payment forcibly reversed through the card scheme at the cardholder's request.
