seo-monitor — Claude Code skill: SEO tracking via Search Console
Pulls rankings, queries and indexing status from Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. Useful when you want a recurring read on site performance instead of a one-off check.
npx skills add cognyai/claude-code-marketing-skills --skill seo-monitor -a claude-codeWhat seo-monitor does
The skill runs on top of Cogny's MCP gateway and reads from whichever integrations you have connected. Google Search Console supplies queries, pages, CTR and positions; Bing Webmaster Tools answers the same questions against its own index. Positions and CTR from the two engines are not directly comparable, so the skill reports them side by side rather than merging them into one figure.
It takes an argument: /seo-monitor for a full overview, queries for top queries and ranking shifts, pages for page-level performance, indexing for indexing status and crawl problems. Search Console data lags by roughly 3 days, so the comparison window ends 3 days back — read the newest days as-is and they look like a false drop. A separate tool_brave_rank_check call checks today's position outside Google for a domain and query, at 1 credit per call.
You need a Cogny Agent subscription at $9/mo and Google Search Console or Bing Webmaster Tools connected. One is enough, both is better. Without Cogny the skill will not start at all: it checks for mcp__cogny__* tools and stops when none are present. A 401 or scope error on the first read means the token was revoked, and the connection has to be reconnected — retrying gets you nowhere.
What it helps with
- compare query positions across the current and previous 28 days
- spot pages with high impressions but low CTR
- catch queries sitting just outside page one
- check which sitemaps are submitted and when they were last read
- review site-wide crawl issues in Bing
Example prompts for the agent
- /seo-monitor queries
- /seo-monitor indexing
- Run
