What himalaya does

The skill documents shell calls to himalaya: folder list, envelope list, reading a message by id, searching by sender and subject. Sending and replying get their own sections.

Two references ship with it. references/configuration.md covers account config, auth and backend setup; references/message-composition.md explains MML syntax for attachments. Config lives at ~/.config/himalaya/config.toml and himalaya account configure walks you through the account. Credentials belong in a password manager or keyring, not pasted into chat.

The himalaya binary has to be on your machine, otherwise nothing runs. If you read mail in a web client and have no plans to script your inbox, skip it.

What it helps with

  • read a message by id from inside the session
  • find every message from one sender on a given subject
  • send a template stored in a file
  • reply to a message and forward another
  • move messages between folders and clear the seen flag

Example prompts for the agent

  • list the folders in my mailbox with himalaya
  • find messages from [email protected] with invoice in the subject
  • send the template from /tmp/message.txt

# Himalaya

Use `himalaya` for IMAP/SMTP email from shell.

## References

- `references/configuration.md`: account config, auth, backend setup.
- `references/message-composition.md`: MML compose syntax.

## Setup

```bash
himalaya --version
himalaya account configure
```

Config path: `~/.config/himalaya/config.toml`.

Prefer password managers/keyrings for credentials; do not paste secrets into chat/logs.

## Read/search

```bash
himalaya folder list
himalaya envelope list
himalaya message read <id>
himalaya envelope list from [email protected] subject invoice
```

## Write

```bash
himalaya message write
himalaya template write
himalaya template send < /tmp/message.txt
himalaya message reply <id>
himalaya message forward <id>
```

Use MML for attachments and rich messages; read `references/message-composition.md` first.

## Organize

```bash
himalaya message copy <id> --to <folder>
himalaya message move <id> --to <folder>
himalaya message delete <id>
himalaya flag add <id> --flag seen
himalaya flag remove <id> --flag seen
```

## Notes

- Use `--account` when multiple accounts exist.
- Quote exact message IDs in summaries.
