gemini — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Runs Gemini CLI in headless one-shot mode for prompts, summaries, and generation. Useful when piping files into Gemini directly from your coding agent.
npx skills add openclaw/openclaw --skill gemini -a claude-codeWhat gemini does
This skill guides your agent to invoke Gemini CLI without launching an interactive shell. Positional arguments trigger interactive prompts, so the skill uses the -p or --prompt flag for headless execution. It covers model switching with -m, structured responses with --output-format json, and piped input via stdin like cat notes.md | gemini -p "Summarize".
It requires the gemini binary on your system. You can install it using Homebrew via the gemini-cli formula. If authentication is missing, run gemini once interactively to complete the login steps. Beyond text generation, the CLI supports commands for extensions, hooks, and MCP servers.
Install this if you want to delegate tasks to Gemini or Gemma from inside your coding agent session.
What it helps with
- pipe file contents into Gemini via stdin for quick summaries
- generate structured JSON responses using the
--output-formatflag - specify target models using the
-mparameter in headless mode - manage hooks, extensions, and MCP servers through the Gemini CLI
Example prompts for the agent
- Summarize notes.md using the gemini CLI
- Run gemini with prompt "Return JSON" and format json
- List all installed extensions with gemini --list-extensions

# Gemini CLI
Use Gemini in headless one-shot mode. Positional text starts interactive mode; use `-p/--prompt`.
Quick start
- `gemini -p "Answer this question..."`
- `gemini -m <model> -p "Prompt..."`
- `gemini -p "Return JSON" --output-format json`
- stdin appends to `-p`: `cat notes.md | gemini -p "Summarize"`
Extensions
- List: `gemini --list-extensions`
- Manage: `gemini extensions <command>`
- Skills: `gemini skills <command>`
- Hooks: `gemini hooks <command>`
- MCP: `gemini mcp <command>`
Notes
- If auth is required, run `gemini` once interactively and follow the login flow.
