create-video — Claude Code skill: video from text
This skill turns a description into a finished video: write what you want to see, and HeyGen generates the script, picks an avatar, adds voiceover and editing. Good for quick demos, explainers and promos without tweaking every detail.
npx skills add calesthio/OpenMontage --skill create-video -a claude-codeWhat create-video does
The skill uses HeyGen's Video Agent — you give it text, and the system figures out how to show it on screen. Describe your goal (product demo, explainer, promo), set the length and style, and the agent writes the script, chooses a character, records the voice, adds visuals and captions. You need HEYGEN_API_KEY in your environment. If your platform (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, etc.) has HeyGen MCP tools available, the skill uses them for automatic auth and formatting; otherwise it falls back to direct HTTP calls.
Works best with clear descriptions that include scenes, timing and visual direction. The skill lets you upload reference files (images, video, audio) so the agent understands your brand and tone. If you need exact avatars, word-by-word scripts and different voices per scene, that's another skill — avatar-video gives you full control for that level of work.
What it helps with
- Generate a demo video from a written description
- Create an explainer or training video from a single prompt
- Build a promo video automatically without manual avatar setup
- Test a video idea as a quick draft before full production
- Get a video with voiceover and captions in one request
Example prompts for the agent
- Create a 60-second video showing how our API works: show a request, response, and app integration
- Make a promo video for our PDF processing tool with three scenes: problem, solution, results
- Generate a quick demo for the new feature: login, file upload, viewing the output

Questions about create-video
How do I install create-video in Claude Code?
Run two commands in order: npx skills add calesthio/OpenMontage --skill create-video -a claude-code, then open ~/.claude/skills/create-video/SKILL.md. The skill is ready to use.
What does create-video do?
The skill generates videos from a text description. You write what you want in the video, and HeyGen automatically writes the script, adds voiceover, picks an avatar and creates visuals. Use it for demos, explainers and promotions without manual work.
What do I need to use create-video?
You need a HeyGen API key (HEYGEN_API_KEY) in your environment. If your platform (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, etc.) has HeyGen MCP tools, they work automatically; without them the skill uses direct HTTP requests. A clear, specific description of what you want produces better results.
