avatar-video — Claude Code skill: generate videos with avatars
Generate videos with AI avatars by choosing a character, voice, script, and background for each scene. Requires HeyGen API key.
npx skills add calesthio/OpenMontage --skill avatar-video -a claude-codeWhat avatar-video does
This skill puts you in control: pick an avatar from HeyGen's library, write the script the avatar will speak, select a voice, and set the background—from solid colors to custom images. Build multi-scene videos where each scene can have its own look. Create transparent WebM files for compositing into other projects, add captions and text overlays. Built-in MCP tools manage your videos: check status, download finished files, delete videos.
You need HEYGEN_API_KEY in your environment. The skill prefers HeyGen's MCP tools (mcp__heygen__*) for operations like status checks, but can fall back to direct API calls. The workflow is straightforward: pick your avatar and voice, structure your script, send the generation request, and the skill waits for the video to render (usually 5–15 minutes).
Unlike the create-video skill, which takes a loose idea and lets AI decide everything, avatar-video is for when you need exact control—a specific character, exact words, specific backgrounds.
What it helps with
- build a multi-scene video with different backgrounds per scene
- record an exact script spoken by a chosen avatar
- generate a transparent video for compositing into another project
- batch-generate videos with identical settings
- use a photo as a talking presenter in your video
Example prompts for the agent
- Create a video where avatar Maya delivers our promo pitch with an office background
- Generate a three-scene video: first with blue background, second with logo, third transparent for editing
- Write a product demo script and generate it with avatar Josh speaking in English
