zenmoney-mcp — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Connects your ZenMoney budget to AI assistants. Lets you review past transactions, register new expenses, and adjust categories directly through chat prompts.
claude mcp add zenmoney-mcp -e ZENMONEY_TOKEN=<ZENMONEY_TOKEN> -- npx -y zenmoney-mcpWhat zenmoney-mcp does
This MCP server exposes personal accounting data from ZenMoney to language models. It provides tools to inspect balances across cards or cash accounts, navigate nested category trees, and filter transaction records across chosen timeframes.
The toolset supports logging single expenses, incomes, and cross-currency transfers between accounts. With update_transaction, you can modify details like dates, notes, or categories across multiple entries in a single step using their IDs. Payee names can also be passed to suggest_category to determine the right category automatically.
Running the server requires Node.js 18 or higher and an API key from zerro.app/token. You must run sync_data before querying records, or the server will lack current data.
What it helps with
- log daily expenses and income using natural language instructions
- reassign categories across several transactions at once
- record cross-currency transfers between personal accounts
- pull and filter transaction history for specific dates
Example prompts for the agent
- Sync my ZenMoney data and display spending from the last 7 days
- Log an expense of 500 RUB for lunch from my Cash account
- Move 1000 USD from Checking to Euro Card, receiving 920 EUR
