yuna0x0-anilist-mcp — Claude Code MCP server: what it does
Connects your AI client to AniList: anime and manga search, user profiles and lists, characters and studios. Useful when you ask an agent about titles instead of copying data by hand.
claude mcp add --transport http yuna0x0-anilist-mcp https://server.smithery.ai/@yuna0x0/anilist-mcp/mcpWhat yuna0x0-anilist-mcp does
The server wraps the AniList API and exposes it as tools: search for anime, manga, characters, staff and studios, details by ID, user profiles and lists, genres, tags, recommendations, threads and activities. Some tools write data — add or remove a list entry, favourite a title, follow a user, post an activity. Those are marked as requiring login.
It runs over STDIO or HTTP. The local route needs Node.js 18+ and an entry in mcp.json or claude_desktop_config.json: command npx, args -y anilist-mcp. The ANILIST_TOKEN is optional and only matters for operations that require login, so search and reads work without it. You create the token in AniList's developer settings.
Self-hosted HTTP starts on port 8081 by default; change it with the PORT environment variable. If you pre-configure a token on the server and expose the endpoint, anyone reaching it can act on your AniList token, so put authentication in front before sharing the URL. In HTTP mode a client can send the token in the Anilist-Token header, and that value takes precedence over the server's ANILIST_TOKEN.
What it helps with
- find anime by title and filter by genre
- pull a character card by AniList ID
- read another user's anime list
- add a title to your own AniList list
- collect recommendations for a specific title
Example prompts for the agent
- Search for anime similar to "Bocchi the Rock!"
- Tell me about the character Hitori Gotou using the AniList tools
- What anime has Studio Ghibli produced? List their most popular works

Questions about yuna0x0-anilist-mcp
How do I install yuna0x0-anilist-mcp in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add --transport http yuna0x0-anilist-mcp https://server.smithery.ai/@yuna0x0/anilist-mcp/mcp. The server then connects over HTTP, so there is nothing else to install.
What does yuna0x0-anilist-mcp do?
It gives an agent access to AniList: search across anime, manga, characters, staff and studios, plus user profiles, lists, recommendations and activities. Anything that requires login needs an AniList token.
Do I need an AniList token for it to work?
No, ANILIST_TOKEN is optional. It is only needed for actions on a user's behalf: editing lists, favourites, follows and posting activities. Over HTTP a client can pass the token in the Anilist-Token header, which overrides the server-side one.
