OmniSeek — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
A local MCP server that fetches content from Bilibili, Zhihu, and academic citations where standard search falls short. Keeps all indexes on your own machine.
claude mcp add omniseek -- uvx omniseekWhat OmniSeek does
OmniSeek exposes tools like omniseek_search to your AI agent, pulling discussions from platforms like Bilibili, Zhihu, and V2EX with direct post links. It handles multilingual discovery directly. You write prompts in English, the tool queries Chinese platforms, and your assistant answers in English. It also maps research papers by linking foundational literature with recent citing works.
Everything executes on your local hardware. There are no remote accounts or tracking telemetry. Python 3.11 or newer is required to run the package via uvx. The server saves retrieved records in a local index, so future prompts build upon prior discoveries.
Walled sources that require credentials remain disabled by default. If enabled, OmniSeek interacts with them through your existing browser session without handling your passwords.
What it helps with
- locate specific quotes and timestamps inside Bilibili videos
- build citation networks between foundational research and newer papers
- monitor topics over time and highlight only unseen updates
- search Chinese forums like Zhihu and V2EX using prompts in other languages
Example prompts for the agent
- Find the Bilibili discussion on the transformer paper and quote the exact timestamp for the writing breakdown.
- Map out foundational papers on state space models along with recent preprints citing them.
- Check my tracked query on solid-state batteries and show only updates published since last week.
