Wise — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
This MCP server connects Wise to an AI host for balances, rates, activity, recipients, quotes, and transfer actions.
claude mcp add --env WISE_API_TOKEN=<WISE_API_TOKEN> --env WISE_ENVIRONMENT=<WISE_ENVIRONMENT> --env WISE_REQUEST_TIMEOUT_MS=<WISE_REQUEST_TIMEOUT_MS> --transport stdio wise -- npx -y @mindstone/mcp-server-wiseWhat Wise does
Wise exposes a Wise API connection through MCP tools. An agent can inspect accessible personal and business profiles, view multi-currency balances, read balance statements and activity, and retrieve current or past exchange rates. It can also list recipients, inspect their bank details, and find the fields required for a payment route.
The transfer flow starts with a quote, then a recipient and an unfunded transfer. fund_wise_transfer is the step that debits a Wise balance; cancel_wise_transfer can stop a transfer before funds_converted. These transfer actions are marked destructive, so approval is handled by the host. Quotes and recipient creation do not move money.
The server requires Node.js 20+, npm, and a Wise API token. Set WISE_API_TOKEN, or use the configure_wise tool to connect an account; WISE_ENVIRONMENT selects production by default or sandbox with a sandbox token. Without Node.js 20+, the server will not start.
What it helps with
- inspect Wise balances across currencies
- look up a current or historical exchange rate
- price a transfer and lock its quote
- find required bank details for a recipient
- create, fund, or cancel a Wise transfer
Example prompts for the agent
- Show the balances for every accessible Wise profile, grouped by currency.
- Price a transfer between two currencies and report the fee from the quote.
- Check the transfer status, then fund it from the Wise balance only after I approve.

Questions about Wise
How do I install Wise in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add mcp-server-wise -e WISE_API_TOKEN=<WISE_API_TOKEN> -- npx -y @mindstone/mcp-server-wise.
What does Wise do?
Wise gives an MCP host tools for Wise profiles, balances, statements, activity, rates, recipients, quotes, and transfers. Funding a transfer can debit a Wise balance.
Which Wise action moves money?
Only fund_wise_transfer debits a balance. create_wise_transfer leaves the transfer unfunded, while quote and recipient creation do not move money; destructive actions rely on the host's approval layer.
