What Wikipedia Trends API does

This server connects to the HTTP endpoint at https://wikipedia.api.trendsapi.ai/mcp to expose Wikipedia readership data. The tools report interest levels scaled from 0 to 100 over custom date ranges. It also calculates growth across intervals such as 3M, 12M, or YTD, and retrieves current leaderboards of viral articles.

Article headings must match Wikipedia titles strictly. Submitting Java instead of Java (programming language) returns an entirely different dataset, while invalid names yield a 404 status. An API key from trendsapi.ai is required to authenticate requests.

What it helps with

  • track article interest history on a 0-100 index scale
  • calculate percentage view growth over quarterly or yearly spans
  • inspect currently trending pages on Wikipedia in real time
  • detect readership spikes for research and content planning

Example prompts for the agent

  • Pull the 12-month page-view trend for Artificial intelligence on Wikipedia
  • Show the top ten trending Wikipedia articles right now
  • Compare readership growth for Rust (programming language) between 3M and 12M windows

Questions about Wikipedia Trends API

How do I install Wikipedia Trends API in Claude Code?

Run claude mcp add --transport http wikipedia-trends-api https://wikipedia.api.trendsapi.ai/mcp in your console. You also need an API key from trendsapi.ai to authenticate.

What data does the Wikipedia Trends API MCP server provide?

It returns relative attention metrics normalized between 0 and 100, percentage growth across selected time windows, and live ranking tables.

Wikipedia distinguishes topics strictly by page title. For example, querying Java instead of Java (programming language) yields a completely separate topic series, and missing pages return a 404 error.
