wikimoth — Claude Code MCP server: memory and setup
wikimoth follows [[wikilink]] connections across Markdown notes and returns the linked path without an LLM retrieval call. Use it for agent memory.
claude mcp add --env WIKIMOTH_VAULT=<WIKIMOTH_VAULT> --env WIKIMOTH_PYTHON=<WIKIMOTH_PYTHON> --transport stdio wikimoth -- npx -y wikimoth-mcpWhat wikimoth does
wikimoth reads a folder of Markdown notes whose relationships are written as [[wikilink]]. It follows those links across multiple hops, retrieves the relevant fragments, and exposes the note path behind the result. Retrieval is deterministic, so the same query follows the same path.
The MCP setup uses wikimoth-mcp through npx, with WIKIMOTH_VAULT and WIKIMOTH_PYTHON available for the vault and Python configuration. The store does not depend on a GPU or vector database, and retrieval itself does not call an LLM. Without [[wikilink]] connections, it cannot build a multi-hop route through the notes.
What it helps with
- trace related notes across several links
- show the notes behind an answer
- retrieve memory without an LLM call
- connect a Markdown vault to an agent
Example prompts for the agent
- Use wikimoth to trace the notes that explain the authentication setup.
- Ask wikimoth which linked notes describe this API.
- Use wikimoth and show the note chain behind your answer about the project structure.

Questions about wikimoth
How do I install wikimoth in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add wikimoth -- npx -y wikimoth-mcp.
What does wikimoth do?
It connects a Markdown notes folder to an agent, follows [[wikilink]] paths across multiple hops, and retrieves the resulting note chain without an LLM in the retrieval loop.
Does wikimoth require a GPU or vector database?
No. It uses a Markdown store and works without a GPU or vector database.
