wigolo — Claude Code MCP server: web tools without API keys
A local MCP server that hands your coding agent web search, page fetching, crawling and a cache. The core tools run without API keys.
claude mcp add wigolo -e YOUR_API_KEY=<YOUR_API_KEY> -- npx -y wigoloWhat wigolo does
wigolo sits next to your coding agent and exposes one set of web tools: search, fetch, crawl, extract, cache, find-similar, research and autonomous gather loops. The core runs keyless, keeps its data under ~/.wigolo/, and nothing leaves your machine.
Setup starts with npx wigolo init, which pulls down the browser engine and on-device models, then runs a health check and reports on each part. Pass --agents=claude-code,cursor to have the MCP config written for those agents in the same run. You need Node ≥ 20 and roughly 1.5 GB of free disk space. Add --no-warmup if you would rather defer the downloads until first use.
research, agent and search format=answer call an LLM to write a cited answer. Without one they return a raw brief your agent has to assemble itself. A free Gemini key goes in via WIGOLO_LLM_PROVIDER=gemini and GEMINI_API_KEY; other providers work too, and WIGOLO_LLM_PROVIDER=ollama keeps everything local. Run npx wigolo doctor to check health, or npx wigolo config --uninstall --yes to remove it.
What it helps with
- pull current facts off the web from inside the agent
- fetch a page and lift one section out of it
- walk a docs site and collect every auth detail
- cache results so repeat lookups skip the network
- surface sources similar to one you already have
Example prompts for the agent
- Search the web for how this flag is configured now and give me the links
- Fetch that page and pull out the parameters table
- Crawl the docs site and gather everything about authentication
