mcp-server · upstash — Claude Code MCP server: features and setup
This local Upstash MCP server lets an agent inspect and manage Redis, QStash, Workflow, and Upstash Box resources. It is no longer maintained; the project points users to its remote server.
claude mcp add mcp-server -e UPSTASH_EMAIL=<UPSTASH_EMAIL> -e UPSTASH_API_KEY=<UPSTASH_API_KEY> -e UPSTASH_BOX_API_KEY=<UPSTASH_BOX_API_KEY> -- npx -y @upstash/mcp-serverWhat mcp-server does
The server connects an MCP client to Upstash resources so an agent can inspect account data and perform operations across Redis, QStash, Workflow, and Upstash Box. Local setup runs npx -y @upstash/mcp-server and uses Upstash credentials supplied through environment variables.
A read-only API key disables tools that change account state. The agent can still query data and inspect logs, but cannot create databases or delete backups; Upstash Box tools are unavailable with that key. This local server is no longer maintained, so the project recommends using https://mcp.upstash.com/mcp for new setups.
What it helps with
- inspect Redis data from an agent
- review QStash and Workflow logs
- manage Upstash resources through an MCP client
- restrict agent actions with a read-only API key
Example prompts for the agent
- Check the Redis data in my Upstash account.
- Find failed tasks in the QStash logs.
- Review the Workflow logs and explain what happened.
