TokenSave — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Builds a local semantic code graph so AI agents query symbols in libSQL instead of reading whole files. Useful when repo scans consume too many tokens.
Open on GitHubWhat TokenSave does
Instead of scanning directories with grep and file reads, TokenSave maintains a semantic graph of the codebase in a local libSQL database with FTS5 search. An agent queries MCP tools to inspect symbols and resolve caller relationships in a single call. Over 50 languages are supported, including Rust and TypeScript.
Code parsing runs in isolated subprocesses. A parser crash on an invalid file terminates only that worker pool process, allowing repository indexing to continue. Alongside graph traversal, the tool tracks code health metrics and executes anchored file edits.
Everything runs locally on your machine. No external services or API keys are required.
What it helps with
- query code symbols and entry points through a local semantic graph
- trace callers and callees to analyze modification impact
- reduce token spend when exploring large codebases
- inspect code health metrics and structural complexity
Example prompts for the agent
- Find all callers of
validateTokenusing the TokenSave graph - Build task context and trace dependencies for the auth module
- Inspect repository health metrics to identify structural risks

Questions about TokenSave
How to install TokenSave?
On macOS, install the binary via Homebrew with brew install aovestdipaperino/tap/tokensave.
What does TokenSave do?
It indexes your codebase into a local graph database, allowing agents to query symbols and callers directly instead of wasting context on repeated file scans.
Does TokenSave send code to external services?
No, all indexing and queries run locally using libSQL. The server requires no API keys and keeps data on your machine.
