What The Margin does

The server exposes workspace data over Streamable HTTP at https://mcp.themarginapp.com/mcp. Authentication relies on OAuth 2.1, meaning setup usually requires only passing the endpoint. Once linked, an assistant gains visibility into personal notes, chore boards, meals, and financial logs. Because the underlying app stores local copies, information stays intact offline and syncs back when your connection returns.

The catalog provides 271 tools. Among them, 112 perform read-only lookups, 82 handle record creation or updates, and 77 are capable of removing entries. Every operation remains bound to the logged-in user and their chosen workspaces. If you prefer evaluating actions without signing up, the sandbox endpoint at https://mcp.themarginapp.com/sandbox/mcp spins up an ephemeral household. That temporary space gets purged roughly an hour after your last call.

What it helps with

  • inspect and complete daily habits via conversational commands
  • log household expenses directly into your shared budget
  • manage task boards and shopping checklists from the editor
  • test agent workflows inside a throwaway sandbox without signing up

Example prompts for the agent

  • Review my tasks for today in The Margin and mark morning exercise as done.
  • Add 45 dollars for groceries to my weekly household spending.
  • Check what meals are planned for dinner tonight.
