SonicWall MCP — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Audits SonicWall firewall fleets for cyber-insurance readiness: tracks firmware, advisories, MFA, and SSL-VPN exposures. Runs locally via stdio.
Open on GitHubWhat SonicWall MCP does
This server hooks AI agents directly into the SonicWall appliance API. It aggregates critical cyber-insurance data across the hardware inventory, compiling firmware versions, vendor bulletins, MFA settings, and active subscriptions into a unified view. Built for managed service providers, it removes the need to log into each firewall web interface separately.
The setup script places two binaries onto your system path: the sonicwall-cli utility and the sonicwall-mcp service. Skill-aware environments discover capabilities using the bundled SKILL.md specification.
Running with --transport http is dangerous in this build because request size limits and timeouts are not yet enforced. Given that MCP actions execute with your administrative rights, keeping the server on stdio transport is required.
What it helps with
- audit firmware releases and pending security advisories
- map out SSL-VPN exposure points across client networks
- verify multi-factor authentication enforcement on appliances
- track license expirations across multiple firewalls in one report
Example prompts for the agent
- Audit all SonicWall firewalls for outdated firmware and active advisories
- Check MFA status and open SSL-VPN interfaces across our appliances
- Generate a table of license statuses for the entire SonicWall fleet

Questions about SonicWall MCP
How to install SonicWall MCP in Claude Code?
Add the repository by running /plugin marketplace add Servosity/msp-skills, then install the component with /plugin install sonicwall@msp-skills. Alternatively, execute the POSIX shell installer: bash <(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Servosity/msp-skills/main/skills/sonicwall/install.sh).
What does SonicWall MCP do?
It queries connected SonicWall firewalls to evaluate cyber-insurance metrics. The server gathers firmware versions, security alerts, licensing status, and SSL-VPN configuration data into structured tables.
Why is HTTP transport mode restricted?
The HTTP listener currently lacks limits on request size and execution duration. Because MCP commands execute with configured management credentials, the author advises using only local stdio communication.
