smails — Claude Code MCP server: a throwaway inbox for your agent
Gives an AI agent its own disposable mailbox so it can pull verification codes out of incoming email. No signup.
claude mcp add smails -- npx -y @smails/cliWhat smails does
Five tools ship with the server. create_mailbox spins up a throwaway inbox, list_messages shows what landed in it, read_message opens one by id, delete_message clears it out, and get_address reports the current address. Your agent can then grab a verification code on its own and keep going.
The mailbox address and token live in ~/.smails. Point SMAILS_API_URL somewhere else if you need a different API base; otherwise it talks to https://smails.dev. Everything runs through npx, so there is nothing to install first.
The same package doubles as a terminal tool: npx @smails/cli create, inbox, read <id>, delete <id>, whoami. Running create --force replaces the current mailbox with a fresh one, and the old messages go with it.
What it helps with
- read a verification code from an email without copying it by hand
- spin up a temporary inbox for a test run
- hand an agent an address to sign up with
- delete a message so the inbox does not fill up
- check which address the agent is currently using
Example prompts for the agent
- Create a throwaway mailbox and tell me the address
- Check the inbox and pull the verification code from the latest message
- Delete that message from the mailbox

Questions about smails
How do I install smails in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add smails -- npx -y @smails/cli. The server shows up in your Claude MCP list right after.
What does smails do?
It creates a disposable mailbox and lets an agent read mail from it. That way the agent can fetch verification codes during signup without you stepping in.
Do I need an account or an API key?
No. create_mailbox makes the inbox, the token is saved to ~/.smails, and SMAILS_API_URL overrides the API base if you need a different one.
