Engram · rwnalds — Claude Code MCP server: memory and setup

Engram gives agents a shared Markdown vault backed by Git and filters out notes marked as outdated. It suits projects where multiple agents need to read and update the same knowledge base.

What Engram does

Engram connects MCP clients to a shared folder of Markdown notes. Agents can read and write in the same vault, while Git keeps the files and records changes. Search checks whether a note is still valid: entries marked as superseded or past their validity date are withheld, with the reason sent to the agent.

The package includes a dashboard for searching notes, inspecting file diffs, and curating the vault. An in-memory index supports full-text search and links between notes; the files remain the source of truth. Per-agent tokens can limit access to reading or writing. Docker is needed for the provided Claude Code launch command.

Engram works with Obsidian vaults and MCP clients including Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor. To add it to Claude Code, run claude mcp add rwnalds-engram -- docker run -i --rm ghcr.io/walds/engram:0.1.2?

What it helps with

  • share project notes across agents
  • keep retired facts out of search results
  • inspect who changed a note and review its diff
  • search Markdown notes and their linked pages

Example prompts for the agent

  • Save the new API endpoint in the shared project memory.
  • Find the current project price and show any notes left out of the results.
  • Check who last edited the setup notes.

What does Engram do?

It provides shared agent memory through an MCP server, using Markdown files stored in Git. Search filters notes marked as no longer current.

How does Engram handle outdated notes?

Mark a note as superseded or give it an end date. Engram excludes it from search and tells the agent why.
