Ratevert MCP — Claude Code MCP server: rates and conversion
A public read-only MCP server for finding assets and converting currencies, stocks, crypto, ETFs and funds. Useful when an agent needs an exact rate plus a citable source.
claude mcp add --transport http mcp https://ratevert.com/api/mcpWhat Ratevert MCP does
Four tools ship with the server. search_assets resolves a canonical Ratevert asset, get_rate gives the current one-unit rate for a pair along with a canonical pair URL, convert_amount handles a stated amount and returns the exact rate, a rounded display value, freshness and a source URL, and compare_assets puts one source asset against up to three targets. A comparison request tops out at four assets total: one source plus three targets.
Agents connect over remote Streamable HTTP at https://ratevert.com/api/mcp. No API key is involved, and public traffic is rate-limited. Claude takes a single terminal command; Cursor and GitHub Copilot need the server declared in the client config. Running it locally needs Node.js 20 or newer and npm 10 or newer — npm ci, copy .env.example to .env, then npm start. The default bind is 127.0.0.1:3010, serving http://127.0.0.1:3010/mcp.
Behind a reverse proxy, keep RATEVERT_MCP_TRUST_PROXY scoped to that one known proxy and have the proxy itself replace the forwarding headers it receives — otherwise a client address is trivial to spoof. Treat the output as reference material: quotes can lag or go missing, and nothing here executes a trade.
What it helps with
- resolve a canonical ID for a currency, stock or crypto asset
- pull the current one-unit rate for a pair
- convert a stated amount with a rounded display value
- compare one asset against three targets in a single call
- attach a source URL to a rate in an agent answer
Example prompts for the agent
- Find the canonical Ratevert asset for Bitcoin
- Convert 250 EUR to JPY and show the data freshness
- Compare USD against EUR, GBP and CHF
