Project Parva — Claude Code MCP server: Nepali dates and Panchanga
A read-only MCP server that hands your agent a Nepali calendar: BS to AD conversion, holidays, working days, fiscal-year rules, Panchanga, each with its source.
claude mcp add project-parva -- docker run -i --rm ghcr.io/dantwoashim/parva-mcp-server:1.0.0What Project Parva does
The agent gets callable tools for Bikram Sambat work: shifting dates between BS and AD, checking that a BS date exists, month metadata, holiday and working-day lookups, Nepal fiscal-year logic. Panchanga has its own group — sunrise, tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana, paksha, vara. Nothing writes. Every tool reads.
Provenance is what the project is built around. A result names its source and method, and exact findings stay apart from ones still waiting on a check. So a date deep in the future BS range never comes back looking settled. The repo carries public fixtures and a conformance runner, tools\conformance_runner\run.py, called through py -3.11.
Docker is non-negotiable here: the install runs ghcr.io/dantwoashim/parva-mcp-server:1.0.0 as a container, and without it the add command has nothing to start. Licensing is AGPL-3.0, so putting this inside a closed product means working through the commercial terms the repo keeps in a separate document.
What it helps with
- move a date from BS to AD without maintaining your own month table
- reject a BS date that does not exist before the datepicker accepts it
- count working days around Nepali holidays for a payroll month
- place a booking on the right side of the Nepal fiscal-year boundary
- get tithi and nakshatra for one specific day
Example prompts for the agent
- Convert
2078-01-01from BS to AD and show the source and method fields the server returned. - Check
2078-13-01— is that a valid BS date, and which rule rejects it? - Give me Nepal holidays and working days for
2078-05so I can close the payroll period.

Questions about Project Parva
How do I install Project Parva in Claude Code?
With Docker running, one command: claude mcp add project-parva -- docker run -i --rm ghcr.io/dantwoashim/parva-mcp-server:1.0.0. It registers the server as a stdio process.
What is Project Parva for?
It answers Nepali calendar questions inside an agent session: BS/AD conversion, date validation, BS month length, holidays, working days, fiscal-year placement and Panchanga values. Answers carry their source and method, so you can tell a confirmed date from one flagged for review.
Does the server write anything to my project?
No. The tools are read-only, and the container returns conversions, metadata and provenance notes without touching your files or database.
