Open Brain — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
This MCP server stores thoughts as a graph in Postgres and retrieves them by meaning. Use it when an assistant needs memory across sessions.
Open on GitHubWhat Open Brain does
Open Brain accepts thoughts from an MCP client, a Telegram bot, or a feed pipeline covering RSS and research papers. It stores embeddings, topics, people, projects, and links in Postgres with pgvector. An assistant can search by meaning, filters, or time, then request a weekly theme review.
The server detects semantic duplicates, connects related thoughts, and assigns relationship types to linked records. A background Dream cycle combines findings from clusters and archives stale material. You can deploy it through Supabase or Docker Compose; the Supabase route uses ./scripts/bootstrap.sh, ./scripts/deploy.sh, and ./scripts/validate.sh.
OpenRouter is required for embeddings and metadata extraction, while the Supabase route also needs a Supabase project and the Supabase CLI. Without the OpenRouter key, vector creation and metadata extraction will fail.
What it helps with
- capture thoughts from Telegram and an MCP client
- search stored notes by meaning
- remove semantically duplicated thoughts
- generate a weekly review of themes
- connect people, projects, and tools in a graph
Example prompts for the agent
- Search memory for database migration notes and group the results by theme.
- Find related records about the
open_brainproject for a given period. - Create a weekly theme review and flag thoughts that contradict each other.
