Vaquill — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Connects US and Indian primary legal corpora to your coding agent. Helps retrieve statutory sections, check regulations, and parse legal citations.
claude mcp add --transport http vaquill-mcp https://mcp.vaquill.ai/mcpWhat Vaquill does
This server links development agents directly to the Vaquill API for regulatory research across US federal codes and state statutes. Agents run keyword queries or hybrid semantic scans across court rules and regulatory guidance. Up to 50 statutory sections can be pulled simultaneously with metadata and full text.
Tools load dynamically from the OpenAPI declaration during startup. The US setup provides 26 endpoints while the Indian corpus provides 22. Every single endpoint operates in read-only mode. Each server instance targets only one legal corpus at a time. Querying both jurisdictions requires defining two separate client entries, with India activated via --jurisdiction IN.
A personal key from vaquill.ai is mandatory whether connecting through uvx or using remote endpoints. Without passing the credential in VAQUILL_API_KEY or the Authorization header, requests will fail. Regulatory tracking boards and change alerts stay outside this toolset and require the web dashboard or direct REST calls.
What it helps with
- locate statutory sections across US federal or state law
- resolve Bluebook citations directly into statutory text
- fetch legislative sections and structure for compliance checks
- query Indian legal codes using a dedicated jurisdiction flag
Example prompts for the agent
- Search USC provisions regarding open source export restrictions
- Resolve Bluebook citation 42 U.S.C. § 1983 and display its text
- Check data protection mandates in Indian regulations

How to install Vaquill in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add --transport http vaquill https://mcp.vaquill.ai/mcp in your terminal. You must also supply your API key in the authorization header or environment.
What does Vaquill do?
It grants agents access to US and Indian primary legal databases, including codes and court rules. It handles citation lookup, hierarchy browsing, and statutory text retrieval.
Can a single instance query both US and Indian law?
No, an individual process binds to a single corpus. To search both legal systems, register two server configurations and append --jurisdiction IN to the Indian setup.
