Native DevTools — Claude Code MCP server: features and setup
Lets an agent interact with desktop apps, Chrome and Electron, and Android devices through MCP. Use it when a task requires clicks, text input, or screen inspection.
claude mcp add native-devtools -- npx -y native-devtools-mcpWhat Native DevTools does
The server gives an agent tools for taking screenshots, recognizing on-screen text, clicking, typing, and managing windows. It uses CDP to automate Chrome and Electron, and ADB to interact with Android devices. Processing runs locally, so screenshots and input stay on the machine.
On macOS, agents can inspect the accessibility tree and act on specific elements without moving the cursor. Visual interaction is available too, including text and image searches on screen. Browser automation is limited to Chrome and Electron through CDP; Firefox and WebKit are unsupported. Linux is unsupported as well.
What it helps with
- capture a screen and locate text in it
- click a control or enter text in an app
- launch apps and manage their windows
- interact with an Android device through ADB
Example prompts for the agent
- Take a screenshot and find the text “Settings” on it.
- Bring the target window forward and click its save button.
- Open the app on Android and enter the requested text.
