mwe-mcp — Claude Code MCP server: shared agent memory as Markdown

A self-hosted MCP server where agents write facts into one Markdown wiki, and access is decided for each fragment on its own.

Open on GitHub

What mwe-mcp — Memory Wiki Engine does

mwe-mcp keeps agent memory in a folder of Markdown pages instead of a vector index. You can open the files, correct a wrong fact, or trace why an agent believes something. Below the pages sits an index: every fact carries a subject, a sender, an audience and a validity window.

Visibility is enforced fragment by fragment. A fact scoped to the team group never reaches someone outside it, because the engine strips the span before it gets to that person's agent. No error, no access-denied message — the text is simply absent. The rules live in engine code, not in a polite request to the model.

The server is written in Rust and needs version 1.88 or newer. License is AGPL-3.0. A public demo at demo.contea.casa is a frozen instance where you can enter as Bob, Alice or Zoe and watch the same page render differently for each. The demo is read-only and no agent can be attached to it.

What it helps with

  • share one agent memory across several people without exposing everything
  • open the memory and fix a fact the assistant got wrong
  • trace which person reported a fact and when
  • revoke access to a fact after a group change, with no re-indexing
  • collect what a voice assistant, a chat bot and a coding agent each recorded

Example prompts for the agent

  • Note in memory: Bob changed jobs, he is at AcmeCorp now. It is about Bob, scope it to team.
  • What do you know about my current job?
  • Show kitchen_renovation_trades.md the way Zoe would see it.

Questions about mwe-mcp — Memory Wiki Engine

How do I install mwe-mcp in Claude Code?

There is no install command for Claude — build the server from the Fr4nZ82/mwe-mcp repository and register it in your MCP configuration.

What does mwe-mcp do?

It holds shared memory for several agents as a Markdown wiki. Each fact on a page is indexed on its own, and the engine decides whether a given reader gets to see it.

How is this different from vector memory?

You can read the memory yourself, and access is limited to a single sentence inside a page rather than to a whole document.
