Penfield Memory — Claude Code MCP server: agent memory
Keeps decisions, preferences and context alive between sessions, and links them into a knowledge graph. Useful when your agent starts cold every time.
claude mcp add --transport http penfield-mcp https://mcp.penfield.app/What Penfield Memory does
Penfield Memory is a remote MCP server exposing 17 tools across four groups: memory, knowledge graph, context and artifacts. Recall runs hybrid — BM25 keywords, vector similarity and graph connections together. The same store follows you into whichever editor you connect from.
Setup goes through the portal: sign up, wire the server in, then approve the OAuth prompt. The docs suggest opening a session with awaken() to pull identity context and reflect() to orient on recent work, which defaults to the last 7 days. Skip both and the agent has nothing to work from.
Everything talks to https://mcp.penfield.app/, so you need network access and a signed-in account. Windsurf, Cline, Roo Code and Zed take a manual block in their own settings files; Cursor has a deeplink. On OpenClaw the native plugin skips the MCP proxy layer entirely.
What it helps with
- carry architectural decisions across coding sessions
- reload last week's context when a session starts
- link scattered notes into a knowledge graph
- checkpoint a long project and resume it later
- keep one set of preferences across editors
Example prompts for the agent
- Call
awaken()thenreflect()and summarise what we worked on this week. - Store the decision to use Postgres instead of SQLite, with the reason.
- Search memory for everything about auth and show how the entries connect.

Questions about Penfield Memory
How do I install Penfield Memory in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add --transport http penfield-mcp https://mcp.penfield.app/. Then complete the OAuth login when Claude asks for it.
What does Penfield Memory do?
It gives an agent persistent memory: stored entries, a graph of relationships, context checkpoints and artifacts. All of it survives restarts and syncs across platforms.
How is it different from the OpenClaw native plugin?
The plugin drops the MCP proxy layer, so it runs faster. The MCP server is the option for tools that have no native plugin.
