mellos-mapping — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
A live terminal dependency tree showing agent progress from primitive layers to verified upper components.
claude mcp add mellos-mapping -- npx -y mellos-mappingWhat mellos-mapping does
This MCP server renders a real-time layered architectural map in an adjacent terminal pane during development sessions. The graph represents systems from the bottom up, showing foundational modules at the base and disallowing upward-pointing edges. Planned components appear as dashed outlines, active tasks spin, and passing test suites turn completed blocks solid green.
The package bundles eight mmap_* MCP tools, a session launch hook, and an /mmap toggle command. The engine acts as a ledger, refusing broken structural hierarchies such as inverted dependencies while letting the model manage the build sequence. If an edit breaks a lower-level contract, that foundational node turns red under the dependent layers.
Running the server requires Node.js 18.17+ or 20.3+, plus Windows 10+, macOS 13.0+, or Linux with glibc 2.28+ on x64 or arm64. Without an existing Node.js environment on your PATH, the tools will fail to start.
What it helps with
- track agent progress across modular system layers
- spot broken foundational code before upper layers build
- enforce strict downward-only dependency boundaries
- review proposed project architecture before writing code
Example prompts for the agent
- Declare the bottom-up architecture for the new engine and show the initial map.
- Run verification tests for layer L0 and mark verified nodes green.
- Toggle the active map pane using
/mmap.

Questions about mellos-mapping
How to install mellos-mapping in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add mellos-mapping -- npx -y mellos-mapping in your terminal.
What does mellos-mapping do?
It displays a terminal split pane with a dependency graph that updates as an AI agent constructs code bottom-up. Green blocks mark verified tests, while red indicates broken foundations.
What prerequisites are required?
You need Node.js 18.17+ or 20.3+ on your PATH, along with Windows 10+, macOS 13.0+, or Linux with glibc 2.28+.
