mcp-standardnotes — Claude Code MCP server
Connects Claude Code to a Standard Notes vault for search, note editing, tags, and sync. Data access stays on the local MCP stdio process.
claude mcp add --env SN_EMAIL=<SN_EMAIL> --env SN_SERVER_URL=<SN_SERVER_URL> --env SN_CERT_FINGERPRINT=<SN_CERT_FINGERPRINT> --transport stdio mcp-standardnotes -- npx -y mcp-standardnotesWhat mcp-standardnotes does
mcp-standardnotes gives Claude Code tools for working with a Standard Notes vault. An agent can browse, search, read, create, edit, and delete notes, inspect vault statistics, run a sync, and manage tags. Write operations cover formats such as markdown, code, rich text, tasks, spreadsheets, and plain text.
The server uses local stdio transport and keeps the session data in the operating system keychain. The password is used in memory during key derivation, while the vault master key remains on the machine. A self-hosted Standard Notes server can be selected with environment settings, including an optional TLS certificate fingerprint.
You need Node.js ≥ 20, a Standard Notes account on protocol 004, and a working keychain on macOS, Linux, or Windows. Without Node.js ≥ 20, the server will not run.
What it helps with
- search a vault by note content or tag
- draft a new Standard Notes entry from an agent request
- edit or remove an existing note
- inspect vault counts and sync the account
Example prompts for the agent
- Search my Standard Notes vault for notes about the release and summarize the relevant entries.
- Create a note with the conclusions from this task and attach the tag UUID
.... - Show the vault statistics and open the oldest note.
