mcp-server-trello — Claude Code MCP server: setup and tools
MCP server connecting AI agents to Trello boards, cards, checklists, and comments. Handles rate limits and acceptance criteria extraction.
claude mcp add mcp-server-trello -e TRELLO_API_KEY=<TRELLO_API_KEY> -e TRELLO_TOKEN=<TRELLO_TOKEN> -- npx -y @delorenj/mcp-server-trelloWhat mcp-server-trello does
This server exposes 57 tools to inspect and mutate Trello entities. Agents can read card details, manage comments, add URL-based attachments, and export data formatted as Markdown. A dedicated get_acceptance_criteria tool pulls acceptance criteria checklists directly into the model context.
Written in TypeScript and built on Bun, the package executes via bunx or npx. It automatically respects Trello API rate limits of 300 requests per 10 seconds per key and 100 requests per 10 seconds per token. Both TRELLO_API_KEY and TRELLO_TOKEN are required in the environment before startup.
Workspaces and boards switch dynamically during agent runs with set_active_board and set_active_workspace. Configuration restarts are not needed. Corporate proxy routing is supported through https_proxy.
What it helps with
- fetch acceptance criteria checklists directly into agent context
- export complete card contents including comments and attachments to Markdown
- create, reorder, and archive lists on active Trello boards
- track board updates by watching cards and lists with
watch_card
Example prompts for the agent

CARD_IDin Trello. - Create a new list named 'Ready for Review' and move it to position 2.
- Export all comments and attachments for card
TASK-12in Markdown format.
