What Massdriver does

The server exposes 111 Massdriver tools to an MCP client. An assistant can list projects, create an environment, start or roll back a deployment, pull logs, grant access to a resource, evaluate a policy. Transport is stdio by default, so any MCP client works; pass -http to serve Streamable HTTP instead.

You need a Massdriver API key and your organization ID before the first run. Both come from environment variables (MASSDRIVER_API_KEY, MASSDRIVER_ORGANIZATION_ID) or from a profile in ~/.config/massdriver/config.yaml. Point MASSDRIVER_URL at your own instance if you self-host Massdriver.

The HTTP endpoint answers with application/json and carries no authentication, yet its tools mutate infrastructure. Bind it to localhost or put an authenticating proxy in front. In Docker, stdio needs an interactive stdin, hence the -i flag on the container.

What it helps with

  • list projects and environments in Massdriver
  • trigger an environment deployment and read its logs
  • compare two environments or two deployments
  • create a policy and evaluate it against resources
  • grant access to an OCI repo or a resource

Example prompts for the agent

  • List every environment in the project and flag the ones with unfulfilled dependencies
  • Deploy to staging and pull the logs from the latest run
  • Compare this environment with production and explain the differences

Questions about Massdriver

How do I install Massdriver in Claude Code?

Run `claude mcp add --env MASSDRIVER_API_KEY=<MASSDRIVER_API_KEY> --env MASSDRIVER_ORGANIZATION_ID=<MASSDRIVER_ORGANIZATION_ID> --env MASSDRIVER_URL=<MASSDRIVER_URL> --transport stdio massdriver -- docker run -i --rm -e MASSDRIVER_API_KEY -e MASSDRIVER_ORGANIZATION_ID -e MASSDRIVER_URL docker.io/massdrivercloud/mcp-server:0.2.0`, substituting your own key and organization ID.

What does the Massdriver MCP server do?

It connects an assistant to the Massdriver platform: projects, environments, instances, deployments, components, resources, policies, groups, service accounts and audit logs.

Can the server run over HTTP?

Yes, with the -http flag or via MASSDRIVER_MCP_HTTP_ADDR. That endpoint has no authentication, so keep it on localhost or behind a proxy.
