What mailverdict does

mailverdict is an MCP server that answers three questions about an address: is it a burner, is it a person or a shared mailbox like info@, and did the user mistype the domain. It exposes two tools, check_email and check_domain. The domain-only call keeps the address inside your own system, so reach for it when burner and typo screening is all you need.

The hosted server lives at https://api.mailverdict.dev/mcp and takes no key or signup. A stdio server ships too, started with npm run mcp; that path needs Node 20 or newer and a dataset built by npm run build:data, since lookups run against the local data/dataset.json.

Responses follow the Kickbox and Emailable convention — result, reason, did_you_mean, bare booleans — so existing code against those APIs ports with almost no edits. The dataset is rebuilt from public lists on a daily schedule, and GET /v1/changes shows what moved.

What it helps with

  • block burner inboxes at signup
  • tell a personal address from a role mailbox such as info@
  • offer a corrected domain when the user mistypes it
  • screen a domain without sending the address anywhere
  • confirm a domain has MX records before sending mail

Example prompts for the agent

  • Add a mailverdict check to the signup form: reject burner addresses and suggest a fix when the domain looks mistyped.
  • Run check_domain on mailinator.com and tell me whether it is disposable.
  • Check every address in signups.csv with check_email and list the ones marked risky.

Questions about mailverdict

How do I install mailverdict in Claude Code?

Run claude mcp add --transport http mailverdict https://api.mailverdict.dev/mcp. No key or account is required.

What does mailverdict do?

It detects disposable and role addresses, classifies free mail providers, validates MX records and suggests a corrected domain after a typo.

Can I check an address without sending it to the server?

Yes — check_domain sends only the domain. The full email check is what you want when role detection or normalization matters.
