Lumae — macOS MCP server for Claude Code: record and edit demos
A free macOS screen recorder with an MCP server built in. Your agent films, cuts, zooms and captions the demo while you watch it happen in the editor.
Open on GitHubWhat Lumae does
Lumae takes a raw screen recording and turns it into a demo that looks hand-edited. Pick a display, window or area, and the tool zooms toward your clicks, smooths the cursor path and turns spoken words into captions.
Under the hood it is a native macOS app on SwiftUI and ScreenCaptureKit, plus an MCP server. Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and other MCP clients can film, trim and export clips straight into the editor you already have open. Output goes to MP4, MOV, ProRes or GIF.
You need macOS 26 or newer, on Apple silicon or Intel. First launch asks for screen recording permission. Updates arrive daily through Sparkle, and the camera or microphone prompt appears only when you record with them for the first time.
What it helps with
- film a product demo without manual editing
- cut a long recording into short clips
- add automatic zoom on clicked spots
- turn voiceover into on-screen captions
- export to MP4, MOV, ProRes or GIF
Example prompts for the agent
- Record this window and trim the ending
- Zoom in on the clicks in the last recording
- Caption my voice and export as MP4
