lookup — Claude Code MCP server: phone number checks
A hosted MCP server that answers whether a number is worth dialing or texting right now: carrier, line type, spam reputation, SMS deliverability.
claude mcp add lookup -e VRI_API_KEY=<VRI_API_KEY> -- npx -y veriroute-intel-mcpWhat lookup does
The server lives at https://verirouteintel.com/api/mcp and speaks Streamable HTTP with JSON-RPC 2.0; requests carry Authorization: Bearer <key>. There is nothing to run locally — your client talks to the remote endpoint. For CI or clients that cannot do remote MCP, an npm shim called veriroute-intel-mcp forwards calls to the same host.
Six tools ship with it. vri_number_lookup covers a single number: carrier of record, line type, LRN routing, porting date, plus optional CNAM and reputation. vri_spam_check reports spam and robocall complaints. vri_sms_deliverability returns one verdict for outreach: will the number take an SMS, and is the timing reasonable. Bulk work goes through vri_bulk_lookup (up to 100 numbers per call), vri_submit_job (async job up to 10,000 numbers) and vri_bulk_status for progress.
A key is required before any tool call — discovery alone works without one. Sandbox test keys return sample data and cost nothing, while live keys draw on a prepaid balance at REST API rates. Failed lookups are not billed, and a call that would overrun the balance is refused up front.
What it helps with
- scrub a dialing list and drop dead or VoIP lines
- find out whether your outbound caller ID is tagged as spam
- confirm a number accepts SMS before starting a campaign
- refresh CRM records with current carrier and line type
- run a 10,000-number batch as a background job
Example prompts for the agent
- Check +1 555 010 0199 — carrier, line type and any spam complaints
- Is it a good time to text this number?
- Start a bulk lookup on

Questions about lookup
How do I install lookup in Claude Code?
Add the remote server with claude mcp add --transport http lookup https://verirouteintel.com/api/mcp. The API key goes into the authorization header in your client config.
What does lookup do?
It gives an agent live U.S. and Canadian phone data: carrier, line type, LRN, CNAM, spam reputation, SMS deliverability and a calling-window verdict.
Do I need an API key?
Tool discovery works without one, but calls need a key. A free sandbox key returns sample data with no charges.
