Lific — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install

Lific keeps issues and plans in SQLite and exposes them to AI agents through MCP. It fits work that must continue after a session ends.

What Lific does

Lific is a local issue tracker shipped as one binary with SQLite, a web UI, and built-in backups. Its MCP server gives an agent tools for issues, plans, pages, comments, links, attachments, search, activity history, and export. Issue IDs use a readable form such as APP-42.

Install it with cargo install lific, run lific init, then connect a client with lific connect. Initialization creates the configuration, database, admin account, and background service on :3456; the UI is available at http://localhost:3456. The connector can write MCP settings for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Zed, and other listed clients.

One Lific instance uses one SQLite file, so it does not fit a setup that needs several servers to sync with each other. You can skip the background service with lific init --no-service and start it yourself with lific start. Use lific doctor to check the configuration, database, server, and MCP round trip.

What it helps with

  • carry issues across agent sessions
  • build plans with nested steps
  • show an agent work whose blockers are resolved
  • link issues to people or date windows
  • save completion evidence with an issue

Example prompts for the agent

  • Show the briefing and next steps for project APP through Lific.
  • Create a nested plan for project APP and connect its steps to issues.
  • Find my active issues across the projects I belong to, including blocked work.
