What Lex — Temporal Luxembourg and EU Law does

Lex stores every version of a regulatory text it has seen. Ask what a provision said on 15 March 2022 and you get the validity interval, the timeline, the instrument behind the change, and a provenance record with a hash. If the answer is not knowable, the server returns a machine-readable refusal instead of guessing.

You connect to the hosted endpoint https://law.soufien.lu/mcp. No key, and no legal corpus or vector files land on your machine. Clients that only speak local stdio can bridge to the same endpoint through the third-party mcp-remote adapter, which needs Node.js 18+; that bridge exists for older clients, and the project ships no npm package of its own.

The scope is narrow on purpose. Lex reports what the rule was. It will not tell you whether you complied or whether a rule applies to you — those are professional opinions, and the evidence, index and MCP layers neither generate nor interpret legal text. For audit work that split is the point.

What it helps with

  • find the version of a rule that applied on the date of the facts
  • trace every amendment to a single article
  • attach a permalink and hash to an evidence file
  • filter law chunks by date before similarity search
  • check whether an article changed after a given date

Example prompts for the agent

  • Show the history of CRR Article 92 with dates and permalinks.
  • Compare this article's text on 1 March 2020 with the current version.

Questions about Lex — Temporal Luxembourg and EU Law

How do I install Lex — Temporal Luxembourg and EU Law in Claude Code?

Run claude mcp add --transport http lex https://law.soufien.lu/mcp.

What does Lex do?

It retrieves Luxembourg and EU legal texts as of a specific date, shows validity intervals and the amendment history of an article, and returns a permalink plus a hash.

Do I need an API key or a local copy of the corpus?

No. The server is hosted, no key is required, and the corpus and vector files stay server-side. The mcp-remote bridge is only for clients that cannot speak HTTP.
